Paseo nocturno con sabor a hierro
Me asombra Madrid. Por la noche, y hasta las dos de la mañana, tiene tanta o más vida que de día. Un Jueves, por ejemplo, te puedes encontrar a la mitad de la universidad de juerga por Malasaña o Chueca; tomándose unos vinos en alguna bodega de Puebla , o esperando a la otra media en el metro de Callao.
Pasear por la Gran Vía un Viernes de madrugada es un placer extrañamente morboso. ¿Es que toda esta gente no tiene vida? ¿No trabajan? ¿No tienen clases? Grupos de jóvenes americanos discuten acaloradamente mientras las gárgolas les observan y se preguntan por qué no les dejarán dormir. La gente se va de juerga –o vuelve de ella-, toma café y se sienta en las terrazas a horas intempestivas, sin preocuparse de la hora de despertarse del común de los mortales.
Y tu vas disfrutando del momento, ligeramente embriagado por la absenta y maldiciéndote a ti mismo porque son las cuatro de la mañana y mañana trabajas. Pero no te importa, porque sigues paseando, disfrutando de la –cada vez más escasa- gente.
Sol, sin tráfico, deriva hacia un Carmen cerrado, con sus esquizofrénicos que se esconden en los recovecos de los portales y te gritan incoherentemente. Madrid puede volverte loco, y muchas veces lo hace. Esta ciudad te absorberá el alma y la cordura si la dejas.
La Princesa esta triste a esas horas. ¿Qué tendrá la Princesa? Poco tráfico y muchos bancos en los que descansar los maltrechos pinreles. Bancos que entre cuenta y cuenta, la madera van pelando de pintura, como mi bolsillo; pelado.
Y al final de la avenida, Moncloa, donde espera el coche para volver a casa; al trabajo; al día.
