Chapuzas
Por primera vez en dos años, me desierto –casi- voluntariamente antes de las seis y media de la mañana. Ayer, mientras me estaba intentando matricular de primero de japonés en la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, me llamó mi jefa para pedirme encarecidamente que fuese a un Juicio de Faltas en su lugar. “Pedir encarecidamente”, para quien no lo entienda, es un eufemismo para “lo haces y punto”. Tanto da que yo en procedimiento penal esté absolutamente pez y que no tenga ni puñetera idea sobre que versa el asunto. El juicio es a las nueve y media de la mañana y ella no puede ir.
Venciendo el sueño, que se ha apoderado de mis ojos y que se niega a abrirlos, me he despertado, duchado afeitado y vestido de traje –no necesariamente en ese orden- y me dirigido al autobús.
Sorprendentemente, sigo viendo las mismas caras cansadas en el autobús después de dos años. La gente hace cola mansamente mientras empiezan a maldecir el frío de las mañanas. Los menos leen el periódico comprado en el quiosco que hay junto a la parada. Los más ponen cara de haber olvidado la bufanda. Y yo miro somnoliento el reloj cada minuto para asegurarme de que tengo tiempo de sobra para poder pasarme por el despacho a recoger el expediente, llamar al juzgado y suplicar por un milagro. No pido un milagro grande, no. Sólo necesito que al juez le de un infarto o algo así.
El autobús saturado de silencios, marcha por el carril BUS-VAO dejando atrás el atasco de la nacional VI y entrando en el intercambiador de Moncloa a toda velocidad, donde la gente, cambia un transporte público por otro. Bien autobús, o bien metro, que es como un campo de pruebas de olores y sabores del mundo. Estoy a punto de perder el sentido un par de veces, pero me sobrepongo en cuanto recuerdo que teng que estar en trece minutos en el despacho y empollarme el procedimiento de Juicio de Faltas antes del las nueve.
Cuando salgo en la estación del despacho aun es de noche y aun no se han colocado en sus puestos los repartidores del “20 minutos” y del “metro”, en el quiosco aun no han recibido El Jueves y algo en mi interior se rebela cuando estoy a punto de comprar el Mundo. Mejor paso. Prefiero no leer a tener que leer según que cosas.
Ya en el despacho, comienzo a llamar al Juzgado, donde una bonita voz de maquina me informa que hasta las ocho no existen para nadie. No tengo tiempo ni para tomarme un café. Llamo al cliente para decirle que tiene que estar en Plaza de Castilla a las nueve y a través del teléfono móvil me comunica que está en Toledo y que como no le salgan alitas y un turborreactor, a las nueve estará en la Plaza de Zocodover, pero difícilmente en la de Castilla. Maravilloso. Le intento explicar que como no se presente, le van a declarar en rebeldía, y que sin él, yo no puedo entrar en la vista. “Haz lo que haga falta” me espeta como amenazándome; como si yo pudiese sacar mi varita mágica y convertir a un juez en un ser sumiso que se crea todas las quimeras del mundo sólo porque se las cuenten poniendo morritos. Mal lo llevamos. Jura y perjura que a él no le han notificado nada una vista para esta mañana. Por medio segundo estoy tentado de creerle. Agarro el expediente y me lanzo a la aventura.
Embutido en metro otra vez, hasta los juzgados, rodeado por tiernos infantes camino de los colegios. Creedme que comprendo y comparto las aficiones de Herodes. No hay cosa que odie más que a un niño, con su mochilita con ruedas, chillando y babeando. Bueno, si que lo hay; varios cientos de niños de estás características en mi mismo vagón de metro. Sarín. Mucho sarín.
En el juzgado, discutir con los oficiales es casi un pasatiempo agradable. Gente que simplemente pasa de todo y de todos. Cuando pido ver el rollo –si, termino jurídico que se usa para referirse a los autos- me dicen que ya los tiene el Juez. Exijo ver las cedulas de citación y compruebo que no estamos citados. En ese momento se ha iluminado una luz al final del túnel y he –casi- ordenado suspender la vista para hoy, con una sonrisa de autosuficiencia como las que gastan los litigantes más veteranos; esos que se saben todos los resquicios y recovecos de la ley. Al principio se negaban, pero me he cerrado en banda, alegando una clara infracción del procedimiento y al final me he llevado el gato al agua.
Finalmente, he conseguido que suspendan la vista de hoy. Pero me ha dado la sensación de que la abogada de la parte contraria, que si había vendido con su cliente y su enorme tocho de papelotes, me ha mirado con cara de odio. He intentado hablar con ella despues de salir de la secretaría del juzgado; creo que le interesa llegar a un acuerdo con un tipo como yo antes de pelearnos por un quítame-allá-esos-cuartos –que además ni siquiera son muchos-.
Me odian por hacer mi trabajo; he triunfado. Ahora sólo necesito que me odien por ser yo mismo.
