Why the insulting remarks? If you could understand Japanese, you'd see that this is just a normal little video giving a handy tip for peeling potatoes. As a society, they are always looking for new knowledge and ideas. We should admire them for this rather than disparaging. Sure, the voice-over is a cutsie falsetto, but that's very typical in the Japanese media. To answer the question above: the potato is boiled until it's well heated all the way through, and then the ice water bath is only 10 seconds.

I don't understand why some of you are insulting this. I'm sure Martha Stewart would use it on her show. Japanese take pride in food. They research how to cook the best way, how to keep all the nutrition without cooking it away. I bet you, most of you who insulted about this don't even know how to cook and eat burgers and fries.

if i remember correctly, the way to peel boiled egg is to crack a tiny hole in e shell, and place it right under the running tap. watched it before on tv, and the shell just burst open.
